Workouts To Start Your Day
Working out doesn’t have to mean 2 hours at the gym every day. You only need 30 minutes of physical activity every day to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This can include helping in weight loss, maintaining your weight, or reaching your own personal fitness goals. Getting into the habit of starting your day off with a workout routine is one of the best ways to clear your mind, boost energy levels and to feel your best for the day ahead.
Starting your day off with the same simple workout routine every morning can actually boost your mood for the entire day. There are even studies that suggest that exercise has an effect that treats depression and other mood disorders (hello endorphin release!). While more research needs to be done on the amount of exercise and the specifics, evidence continues to pile up, the exercise-mental health connection is becoming impossible to ignore.
Creating a habit takes about 2 months. So challenge yourself for the rest of 2021 and start 2022 with a brand new morning routine that will get you to your physical and mental health goals!
Here are 5 different ways to work out each morning and start incorporating daily movement.
Walk or Light Jog
Let’s start off simple with a morning walk or jog. This is a great way to start off your day because it is not too physically demanding so won’t burn you out. Try to get outside if you can rekindle with nature. It is also so nice to get your day started with loads of fresh air. Start timing your walks and up the length of your walk as you go. Once you’re ready, you can begin jogging or running. Don’t go too intense all at once, and be sure to listen to your body and increase intensity and speed as it feels right over time.
A daily run of 5-10 minutes can offer you benefits like:
- Reducing your chance of developing a cardiovascular disease
- Improves your blood pressure
- Reduces blood sugar sensitivity
- Increase your mood
- Improves your quality of sleep
- Enhanced brain function
Something that always helped me to stay motivated was taking progress photos. You will be shocked at how much bloating and puffiness you will lose once you being adding in a daily walk or jog. Plus my dog loves it! If you’re struggling to get out of bed to fit in a walk or jog before work, try Aila’s pre-workout drink that is an all-natural, plant-based energy supplement. It gives you the caffeine and energy boost you need while helping you avoid that mid-day crash.
Yoga
Committing to a morning yoga routine is a great way to get your body moving without stressing out the body. Get out of bed and land right on your yoga mat. This is also a great way to begin a morning meditation routine as well. Yoga helps the body begin to naturally move with your breath. It will set you up for a very productive, healthy, positive day, too.
Yoga helps to get the blood flowing as well as focus your energy. Yoga is the perfect natural way to wake up the body and muscles every morning. It will tighten and tone your muscles and help you feel fit and flexible all day long in mind, body, and spirit.
Here is a 10-minute yoga routine that is perfect for beginners.
Low Impact Body Weight Workouts
Low impact workouts are perfect for those of us with bad knees, that hate cardio, but still want to challenge ourselves. Honestly, low-impact workouts are the perfect option for almost anyone. This includes things like yoga, pilates, swimming, golf, etc. But one of my favorite low-impact workouts to do is a simple, at-home circuit workout. Usually, I do 3 exercises that work my large muscles.
If you’re just starting out with a morning workout routine, mix up your favorite pre-workout supplement for energy, and repeat this circuit 3 times each morning. But if 3 times is too much, no sweat! Only do what feels right for you while pushing yourself a bit further every day.
Squats
For bodyweight squats, aim for three to four sets of 15-20 repetitions per leg.
- Start with your hips. The first movement of a squat should always be pushing your hips back behind you.
- Knees over ankles. In a perfect squat, your shins should stay near vertical, and your ankles should move very little.
- Keep your low back neutral.
- Maintain width between your knees.
Lunges
For body-weight lunges, aim for three to four sets of 15-20 repetitions per leg.
- Start by standing up tall.
- Step forward with one foot until your leg reaches a 90-degree angle. ...
- Lift your front lunging leg to return to the starting position.
- Repeat 10 to 12 reps on one leg, or switch off between legs until you've totaled 10 to 12 reps per leg.
Push-Ups
Start with 20 push-ups each morning, and add on daily or weekly.
- Get down on all fours, placing your hands slightly wider than your shoulders.
- Straighten your arms and legs.
- Lower your body until your chest nearly touches the floor.
- Pause, then push yourself back up.
